Hailing from Atlanta, GA, EP3 (Eight Planets Past Pluto) is armed to the teeth with inspired new material and a totally renovated live production by Music Matters. The band is constantly redefining their brand of live electronic music. Their new album, How To Build A Universe That Doesnt Fall Apart Two Days Later is slated for release on 2/29/12 and the bands first tour date will be at the Aura Music Festival. The group was busy, but they took time out of their hectic schedule to answer a few questions I sent them about the upcoming release. Take some time and read-up on the many inspirations and ideas behind the bands latest creation!

From EP3D, to Eight Planets Past Pluto, and now to the upcoming release, how excited are you to drop this next piece?
EP3: We are extremely excited to drop the new release via Underlying Themes! It’s our first full-length album & the entire process of writing & recording was amazing. We are releasing it 2.29.12 for free on our soundcloud & website!
Was the album recorded at the bands home base in Atlanta?
EP3: Yeah we have been recording the album at the home studio in Atlanta. Lots of late night to early morning sessions, so it’s nice to be able get our heads right in a comfortable environment.
This will be the first full-length album released from the group since the conception of the group, how do you feel it relates to you past work?
EP3: The new album is different because all of the parts were recorded from different sessions and pieced together. We kind of made musical collage.
A baseline or key part that ends up on the album on one track was probably recorded to a drums loop that isn’t on the album or that ended up on a different track all together. We used first responses on all of the concepts, recording everything, discarding what we didn’t want and convoluting the parts that moved us.
The new album is entitled “How to build a universe that doesn’t fall apart two days later”, after a speech presented by Philip K. Dick. Would you say the album has a concept driven element based around this speech along with other concepts?
EP3: I think our album, as well as all music, is made to forget and break down our constructs of reality. For the audience and for ourselves, reality is about how we communicate with our surroundings, how better to explain the intangible than with music?
What about the speech do you feel really spoke to the group and helped inspire tracks on album?
EP3: Phillip K. Dick is a very prophetic writer whether he admitted to it or not. All the questions he poses about reality, sanity and how it can be constructed/destroyed so easily definitely inspires the imagination.
“Vimana” was featured in Relix magazine’s recent compilation CD. How has that accomplishment helped spread the word and push the band in a forward direction?
EP3: I’d say it spread our sound to a new and diverse crowd that EP3 has yet to influence. Hopefully that shows when we drop the full album & tour dates for March.
You recently released “Vimana” via Facebook (http://www.underlyingthemes.com/ep3/relix/EP3_VIMANA_MASTER.wav). The track feels very lucid and dreamy. Can we expect this kind of spacey feel through the album?
EP3: The new stuff definitely has a lot of atmosphere and texture to it. We hope to take the listener to a different locale in their construct.
Are there any specific tracks you are excited to see the fans’ reactions to? Any “experimental” songs?
EP3: Every track has a very different feel but a unifying flow to each other. The whole album has been an experimental experience, as creating anything new in your life should be. I think the whole band stepped out of our comfort zone to actually create something new that we are proud of & excited to introduce into other peoples realities.
How long have you been at work in the studio on this piece?
EP3: Some of the field recordings date and place from all over my existence. The production/writing/recording of all the instrumentation had taken place over the last 7 months.
How soon do you anticipate hitting the road for touring and do you have any specific cities in mind you would really love to play?
EP3: Our first show in support of the new album will be the Aura Music Festival (http://auramusicfestival.com/) , followed by a three week tour in March through Fla., Ga., Ky., Ohio, Ill. and hopefully a few more. They are about to be announced via our website www.ep3band.com & our Facebook page.
Any shout outs?
EP3: Mad love to everyone that has supported us and inspired us to keep shit poppin’! Underlying Themes & Confidential Bass Affair families for all their hard work! Whit Hawkins for help mixing & Charlie P for mastering! Oh yeah and Alphonso for having a dope blog!
More information to come available soon! The band took time out of their busy schedule to answer some interview questions while they continued work on their new album! Keep an eye out for the post soon!

Skrillex - Breathe
New track from Skrillex released a few weeks ago. After giving it some time, I’d say I can dig the slower paced and drifty version of his tunes a lot. It’s a great contrast to the current collection of his work in my opinion. With that aside, I hope all who listen enjoy as well.
